Black Swan Data, one of Europe’s leading data science technology companies, has announced the appointment of Pam Roberts as Chief People Officer and Allen Atwell as Chief Technology Officer
Black Swan is widely hailed as one of the fastest growing companies in Europe, having experienced a 1,431 percent rate of growth between 2013 and 2017, achieving revenues of €17,815,000 in 2016 alone. With the companies’ operations now spanning three continents, Black Swan is bolstering its senior team as part of its global growth strategy.
Pam and Allen join the London HQ, where they will oversee a network of offices and teams from the USA over to Hungary and beyond into Cape Town.
Pam joins Black Swan after a spell in New York, where she worked at Spring, an e-commerce platform. She joined just after its Series B funding round, and worked with the company as it progressed through a Series C raise of £65m. Prior to this, Pam has 12 years HR experience in the City, working largely with emerging technology companies and financial services firms. Her experience has seen her lead HR practices at cutting-edge firms, and across organisations that don’t have a hierarchy of staff and competitive job titles.
Speaking of her appointment, Pam Roberts said: “It’s an exceptional time to be joining Black Swan. The company is on a constant growth journey, expanding its footprint across the world, and I’m excited to be working with every single member of the team, ensuring a happy working experience for all. Black Swan has an incredible group of leaders and culture across the company. It already has a unique office environment, with the leadership team spending a lot of time understanding what people want from a workplace and a work/life balance. I can’t wait to help maintain and enhance this culture.”
Pam’s role will see her manage different international offices, ensuring a consistent working experience for all. She will see that Black Swan creates the right circumstances for people to be successful, guaranteeing that they have every tool at their disposal to be at their best at Black Swan.
Allen Atwell joins Black Swan from MessageLabs, where he was also CTO. His previous roles also saw him work as CTO for Mi-Pay, Third Space Learning, and Trader.com. He also spent time at Oracle.com, amassing significant experience in telecommunications. His extensive career across telecoms and software giants has put him at the forefront of emerging technology.
He joins Black Swan to oversee the development of its data science tools, spanning global workforces, as well as enhancing the Black Swan experience for clients new and old.
Allen Atwell said: ‘I’m thrilled to be joining Black Swan at such a pivotal stage of the company’s journey. Black Swan’s entire business model and way of working relies on the smooth running of its technology, and providing a great product experience for its customers; translating complex data into easy to understand visualisations and trends. I’m excited to oversee the next evolution of the product, ensuring our clients have exactly what they need to get the best data to make a real impact on their business.
Steve King, co-founder and CEO of Black Swan, commented: “As Black Swan enters its next phase of growth and as we expand our operations and client base, making sure that we have the right people looking after our technology and our team has been a vital step. Pam is a hugely experienced and impressive Chief People Officer and will help our staff get the best out of their current roles and be the best Swans they can be. Allen’s industry pedigree will help us ensure our tech offering continues to evolve and deliver impact for our clients.”
